A Message from the New DWG President M. L. Liebler
Greetings! Over the past 7 years, many people in the Metro Detroit literary community have asked me to rebuild a Writer's Voice / Poetry Resource Center of Michigan style program to serve the needs of our writing community. The process has begun by rebuilding and reshaping the Detroit Writers Guild.
On the new DWG website (www.dwguild.org), you will find various events' schedules to connect Metro Detroit and Ann Arbor writers to the poetry scenes across the country. Most importantly the new DWG can guarantee you publication opportunities in magazines, journals and reviews around the world through access to the prestigious and acclaimed Duotrope Program (https://duotrope.com/). Many writers across the country rely on Duotrope by paying an annual or monthly fee. I have struck a deal with Duotrope to offer DWG Members this service free to all members. This is a widely popular listing of magazines, reviews, journals and anthologies looking for your work. The normal Duotrope fee is $60 annually—it is free with all DWG membership levels. Click our membership tab for all levels and our THANK YOU premiums. Graduated memberships receive award winning books by many well known Detroit area writers, and we can offer members giving $250 or more a one year package of the MS Office 365 Suite that normally costs users over $100 a year.
I have been working with my team these past several months to help the Detroit Writers Guild regain its rightful spot in the Detroit arts community. The organization was formed as a 501.C.3 in 1982 by the late Peggy Moore. The late Herb Metoyer kept it going, with the support of Diane Lockett, the Rev. Michael Jones, Hermes Metoyer and Joyce Hitchye since Peggy's death in the early 1990s. Before Herb passed in 2015, he asked me to redesign and rebuild the DWG organization. To that end, I have agreed to help DWG continue to be an inclusive and supportive literary arts organization of diverse writers working together. I brought the talented and highly skilled Jenifer DeBellis onboard to manage our website, networking, and to serve as our treasurer. She, with Hermes, have done an incredible job redesigning our site to be the beautiful and user friendly site you see today. Everything is in place, so all we need now is new and renewed memberships and some grants. We need as many folks as possible to join us at some level today. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT ASK! We need your support now so we can support you by helping you get published, help connect you with a welcoming and diverse community of writers, and to help you succeed as a writer. It is our intention to support The Detroit Working Writers programs and all the Springfed Arts wonderful workshop offerings. Will are happy to direct our members to Springfed 6 Week workshops and the DWW annual conference.
We need your support now to continue our Annual Detroit Midtown Fall Lit Walk program, The Poets & Pies Series, Dawgs and Poets at The Atomic Dawg and other reading programs and discounted Craft Talks and Workshops with National, International and Regional Authors. We have many new reading programs being created to serve you.
To honor Mother's Day, DWG will offer a special, one time, limited membership fee of $125that will include Duotrope, Heaven Was Detroit Music Anthology and Desiree Cooper's award winning, best-selling and wildly popular flash fiction book Know the Mother. This offer is good now through May 31, 2017.
The Detroit Writers Guild is a 501C3, so all members are entitled to write off their full contributions on their taxes.
